What is a Persona?
A Persona is a way of utilising data to 'categorise' an end-user and in turn provide more personalised and bespoke communications to that person.
Creating Persona Labels
Prior to utilising your Personas you need to create labels for them.
You can do this via:
Set up (Administration) >> Persona Labels >> Enter a name for your Persona >> Assign a colour to your Persona
The screenshot below shows all the Persona labels that have been created, even if they fall into different categories. The Top 3 relate to the sentiment of what people are saying (positive, negative or neutral) and the bottom 3 relate to the progress that people are making through the course ( ahead, on track or behind)
Using The Persona Builder
Once you have created your Personas you can add them to your Learning Experience
You can do this via:
Learning Experience (you will need to have already created one) >> Persona Builder
At this stage you will be prompted to select one of the options shown in the screenshot below
Depending on which Persona type you select you will be prompted to enter further information:
This screenshot shows a Progress Milestone Persona with a milestone of having completed the "Getting Started" level by 01st February 2019.
- If somebody completes that level by that date they would be "On Track"
- If they completed that level and perhaps another milestone(s) by that date they would be "Ahead".
- If they failed to complete that level by that date they would be "Falling Behind".
Engagement Vs Cohort
This Persona allows you to compare a users 'engagement' against everybody else on that course.
The screenshot below shows that a Persona type has been set up to compare each users Curatr points, compared to everybody else's.
Three 'Engagement Vs Cohort' Personas have been set up which will place people into one of the three 'buckets' below:
- Top 3rd
- Middle 3rd
- Bottom 3rd
of all the course participants (based on Points gained)
People can then receive personalised communications based upon which of those 3 Personas/buckets they fall into.
Their Persona status is refreshed on a daily basis, so depending on the end users 'engagement' along with the rest of the cohort it is possible for that Persona to change.
Some thought should be given when considering this specific Persona as being in the 'Top 3rd' doesn't in itself mean that that person is doing amazingly well. Imagine a cohort where most people aren't doing anything, but a few people are doing slightly more than nothing - this would put them in the middle or top third, which could be misleading.
This Persona categorises people based on the sentiment of the comments they are making.
- Positive comments
- Neutral comments
- Negative comments
providing you with an opportunity to personalise your communications to people based on the sentiment of their comments.
The screenshot below shows a Persona Type that has been set up to place participants into those making broadly:
- positive comments
- neutral comments
- negative comments
Some thought should be given when considering this specific Persona as, depending on the types of questions you are posing and possibly even the audience itself, it may be perfectly reasonable for people to type comments that include words that, without some context, could be deemed as negative.
i.e. tell us about a time that you have witnessed bullying/mistreatment in the workplace and how it made you feel as well (if known) as the impact on the other person.
this doesn't necessarily equate to the respondent being 'negative' as such.
